Let's be honest. Your "multi-channel cadence" is a lie.

You've been told to hit prospects on email, phone, and LinkedIn. So you do. You send an email. You leave a voicemail that says "Hey, I sent you an email." You send a LinkedIn message that says "Hey, just checking if you saw my email."

Congratulations. You haven't created a sophisticated, multi-pronged attack. You've just created multi-channel spam. You're a human version of a marketing automation tool, hitting every button at once hoping one of them works.

It's noise. And buyers are getting better and better at tuning out noise. This is why you get ghosted. It's not because they aren't on LinkedIn. It's because your approach is lazy, repetitive, and adds zero value with each successive touch. It's a checklist, not a strategy.

The problem is that you're treating channels as interchangeable boxes to tick. You're not thinking about why you're using a specific channel for a specific message at a specific time.

From Sequence to Campaign: Think in 'Plays'

A truly effective cadence isn't a sequence of disconnected touches. It's a mini-campaign. A "play". It has a beginning, a middle, and an end. It has a single, focused objective. Every step builds on the last, creating a narrative and building pressure.

Your outbound efforts shouldn't be a random collection of pings. They should be a series of calculated plays designed to achieve a specific outcome.

Let's break down the difference.

A Bad Sequence (What You're Probably Doing):

Day 1: Email - "Hi, we do X, want a demo?"
Day 3: Call - "Hi, following up on my email."
Day 5: LinkedIn Connect - "Hi, would love to connect."
Day 7: Email 2 - "Hi, just bubbling this up."
Day 10: Call - "Hi, me again."

This is a pest. Each step is an isolated, low-value ask.

A Good Play: The 'Problem Agitation' Play

The goal here isn't to ask for a meeting immediately. The goal is to make the prospect feel the pain of the problem you solve so acutely that they want to talk to you.

Step 1: The Insight (Email)
Subject: Question about [Specific Area of Their Business]
Body: "Hi [Name], I saw your company recently announced [Trigger Event, e.g., expanding into Europe]. Typically when companies do this, they run into issues with [Problem you solve, e.g., cross-border payment compliance]. It often leads to delayed revenue recognition by up to 60 days. Is this on your radar at all?"
Why it works: It's not about you. It's about them, their context, and a specific, quantified problem.

Step 2: The Social Proof (LinkedIn)
Find an article, case study, or even a third-party report about the problem you mentioned. Don't send your own marketing fluff.
Share it with them via a LinkedIn message (assuming you're connected, or in the connection request).
Message: "Hi [Name], this article on the hidden costs of European expansion reminded me of my email. The section on payment compliance on page 4 is particularly interesting. Thought you might find it useful."
Why it works: You're now a helpful resource, not just a seller. You're validating the problem you raised with external evidence. You're building on the narrative.

Step 3: The Connection (Call)
"Hi [Name], [Your Name] from [Your Company]. I sent an email last week about payment compliance for your European expansion and shared a related article on LinkedIn. The reason I'm calling is that the problem I mentioned typically sits between the CFO's office and the sales ops team. I'm just trying to understand if this is a challenge you're actively working on right now."
Why it works: You're connecting the dots for them. You sound prepared and thoughtful. You're not asking "Did you get my email?" You're advancing the conversation.

See the difference? The play tells a story. Each step makes the next one warmer and more relevant.

The Anatomy of a Winning Play

Every play you run should have these three components. If it doesn't, you're just making noise.

1. A Single, Defensible Angle

You can't be everything to everyone in one cadence. Stop listing all your features. Pick one value proposition, one pain point, one outcome. The entire play is built around that single angle. As covered in "Your Feature List Isn't a Value Proposition," buyers don't care about your features, they care about their problems.

Bad Angle: "We are an all-in-one sales enablement platform."
Good Angle: "We help AEs at Series B tech companies cut their ramp time in half."

Every email, call, and social touch in your play should hammer this one specific angle.

2. Channel-Appropriate Messaging

Stop copy-pasting your email into a LinkedIn message. It's lazy and ignores the context of the platform.

Email: The place for a structured business case. You can use formatting, attach one-pagers, and lay out a logical argument. It's a formal medium.
LinkedIn: The place for social proof, insights, and casual conversation. Share an article, comment on their post, reference a mutual connection. It's a social medium.
Phone: The place for direct, human interaction. It's for asking sharp questions, handling objections in real-time, and qualifying intent. It's an immediate medium.

Your play should leverage the unique strengths of each channel.

3. Intentional Progression

Each step must build on the previous one. If you can reorder the steps in your cadence without it making a difference, it's a bad cadence.

Step 1: Introduce the problem.
Step 2: Provide evidence or a new perspective on the problem.
Step 3: Connect the problem directly to their world and ask for a conversation.
Step 4: Offer a different angle or a "last chance" piece of high-value content before breaking up.

This progression respects the buyer's time. You're not just "touching base." You're guiding them through a thought process. You are making the priority, which addresses the core issue behind the "Not a Priority" Is Code for "You Haven't Made It One" objection.

Your job isn't to hit an activity metric of 12 touches per prospect. Your job is to build a compelling case for a conversation. Stop spamming and start selling.

TL;DR

Stop building checklists. Build mini-campaigns ("plays") with a single, clear angle. Focus every touch in your cadence on one specific pain point or outcome.
Adapt your message to the channel. A LinkedIn message is not an email. A phone call is not a social comment. Use each channel for its unique strengths.
Ensure each step in your cadence builds on the last one. Your sequence should tell a coherent story that progresses from introducing a problem to proving its importance.
